Has anyone else experienced the loss of video in a published Replay file? The MP4 file that our Replay publish function produces will only play back the audio portion of the recording. Playing the Replay file directly we get audio and video.
We've seen similar issues before when the recording was conducted at full screen. Does that ring a bell in terms of how you recorded? If so, I can include this thread in the report filed with our QA team so that I can update you once there is additional information to offer. In the meantime you'd need to look at recording to be smaller than full screen.
Hmm. This sounds very familiar to the issue that brought me here.
I am using Replay for the first time (and I like it a lot because it's simple except I can't get it to work). :)
I just want to make some short screen capture videos. I did a quick experiment, and within Replay I can see see what I recorded on Track A, and I can see it while I preview (I didn't use audio and don't intend to so I don't know what I can hear/can't hear), but when I publish, and then watch the video file, it's a black screen.
Is this basically the same issue--recording at full screen (which I may have done)? If so, is the current solution to not record at full screen?
No timeline to offer in terms of a fix, but it is something we shared with our QA team and they're investigating. Once we have additional information to share we'll certainly keep you posted here.
Also, just an FYI that responding via email will include your signature here in the forums and you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if needed.
Thanks for letting us know, Tim, and sorry for your troubles! As mentioned above, we are aware of the issue, and since you replied to this post and are now subscribed, any additional updates shared here will be sent to you via email notification, as well.
I can sadly say that Replay 360 fixes this problem but Replay is no longer sold separately. Does anyone have a suggestion for another program to do live screen recordings.
It's no longer sold separately, but if you purchase Storyline 2 or Studio '13 you'll see get access to Replay and the character bundle. Also, Storyline 1/2/360 do allow for screen recordings (just not the video in video set up that Replay has) also within Articulate 360 you could use Peek to conduct screen recordings and that's available on Windows and Mac.
I wanted to share an update here that Replay Update 3 has been released and includes a fix for the issue with recording at full screen and having the published output only include audio. You can view the release notes and download the update here. For any previous courses impacted you'll need to publish these using the latest update to have the changes take effect.
That was an issue fixed in Replay 1 Update 3 - I don't believe the bug was present in Replay 360. Have you run into the same problem? Do you have the .replay file for us to take a look at?
My scenario is a little different- we are seeing a blank screen even before publishing. I’m not sure if it is due to the full screen recording or perhaps in the way the recording was saved. If you look at the attached screen shot you may get a better sense of what I mean. The file is about 2GB is that too large to upload?
Attachments won't come through if you respond via email, so you'd need to visit the forum discussion to share it with us. A blank screen before publishing - but immediately after you record? Have you tried recording at anything other than full screen? What about in other Replay files to confirm it's not just this one? If the errors at uploading here in ELH - you can send it along to our Support Engineers using this form.
Sorry here is the attachment image of what we are seeing. The video was captured in full screen but I think the person recording stopped and started at various points. I will try and upload the replay file in a few mins
Thanks Sheldon for that image - I can see that in some of the sections the screen images are coming through in addition to the web cam images. I'd be curious to take a look at the .replay file as well - and wonder if the person who recorded it has seen the same issue on other Replay files?
I'm experiencing this issue in Replay 360, with files that were recorded using Full Screen....and with a project that has an external video imported (no screen recording at all). My hardware acceleration is enabled.
I opened a support case (01166446) but wanted to include the .replay file for review by posting it here.

Yes it was at full screen.
Thanks Hill!

Yep, I can view my published MP4 video file as long as I don't record full screen.
Thanks to Hill Brady, Ashley Terwilliger, and Leslie McKerchie.
Cheers
Glad that worked Jeffrey and thanks for the update!
You bet.
This may have been addressed elsewhere, but is there a fix and/or a fix coming?
The "full screen" option is pretty handy. If it works.

OK, thanks, Ashley.
I am having the same issue. I have a black wcreen when I publish my full screen recording.

Does this update apply to Replay 360 as well or just Replay 1?

Hey Cory!
Thanks for sharing your file here and with our Support Engineers.
It looks like my colleague Rowie was able to publish your file successfully and asked for a little more info in your case to track down the cause.
Let me know if you received those emails so Rowie can continue to dig in with you!
Thank you Ali, Rowie is working with me via email to try and determine the issue. I appreciate everyone's assistance!
