I haven't come across this error with Replay. It may be that your web cam is trying to record a specific format that isn't supported, or it might have something to do with the installation.
.MKV is not a supported video format. For information on the supported formats, please see this article.
Can you let us know if there are options within your web cam settings that allow you to save to a different type of format? If you're not sure, can you tell us what web cam you're currently using?
