500+ Slide Question Banks Crashing

Sep 28, 2022

I have only been using Storyline for about 6 months. I create credentialing exam simulations that can have as many as 600 questions of which 100 are chosen randomly. I import these questions from several Excel sheets.  After I import about 50 questions ( about one spreadsheet's worth) I need to save my Storyline file and shut down the entire computer system. As you can imagine, all this restarting is a major time suck.  If I don't do it, I  chance losing work because Articulate crashes when saving.

Can anyone provide me with some tips, tricks or bet prctices? Thank you!

This sounds to me like your system may be running out of memory (RAM) when trying to process the import. Shutting down your system will be releasing the RAM again. You can get utilities that allow you to release RAM without shutting down your system (I use something from Norton system utilities).

It may be that Storyline has a leak and isn't releasing RAM after processing the import. I don't think there is any quick solution for you other thank putting as much RAM in your system as possible.
