A button to reset a slide (where audio/variable have an influence)

Jul 15, 2022

Hi there,

I'm looking for a bit of help with my project if anyone is particularly good at resetting slides, including the audio.

To explain at the outset a few points:

- I have on the Introduction page of the module two buttons which you can select to have Audio either on or off (created using Articulate's useful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05q1WX6cyaE)

- Due to the length of our module and recognising some users may change their mind, I have added two buttons to each individual slide to toggle audio on/off, which works well.

- However, we use animations on our slide and recognise a need to reset a slide so that the audio/animations are more in sync. Eg. someone has audio switched off, and we don't want them turning it on while the animated text on the slide is at a different place...we want them to be able to reset the slide so they can have both reset.

Therefore, I want to add a button to reset a slide. I have searched through this community forum and tested a number of ways but none seem to do the trick.

  • First, I have added a button to trigger "Go to slide - this slide" and made sure the settings reset to initial state, which had some success as it reset the interactive elements on the slide. However, if the audio is selected to play throughout the module, this slide button does not reset the audio unless it has finished; otherwise despite the screen resetting the audio just continues onwards. It seems strange "Go to slide-this slide" would reset what you can see on the screen but not reset the audio.
    • You'd have to click stop audio and then refresh the page but ideally I’d like just one button to reset the whole page.
  • Second, I have tried to add a second layer which someone suggested on another thread. I did manage to adapt this idea myself (by setting the timeline to start again if some static text = normal, while also setting the audio to play at zero seconds) however, then it doesn't account for people wanting to click it multiple times - and seems too much work to set up so many buttons.

I want to believe I am overthinking this and there surely must be a way to reset a slide when the audio is set to play automatically, but it seems I've tried the fixes suggested elsewhere. The variable at the start is presumably the issue but I don't understand how a trigger to "Go to slide-this slide" would reset everything but the audio - any help greatly appreciated!  Happy to share a slide from my module if that helps as I hope to replicate these buttons across all the slides.

Many thanks,

Euan
