Acceptable Answers - Won't Work
Jul 14, 2016
I want an acceptable answer to include some different characters and the quiz is interpreting it as code or wild cards or something.
I want the answer to be: tar –cvf log2016.tar *
Anyway I can make this the correct answer? I think the "-" minus sign in the answer is throwing Storyline off. Not sure about the "*" at the end either.
I have tried selecting the "Answers are case sensitive" with no change. I need a "Answers are Literal" selection.

Hi, Joseph -- Thanks so much for reaching out here and for your question! May I ask if you can confirm which you are intending to use: the hyphen (-), en dash (–), or em dash (—)? And do you have a file we can check out, as well?
Hi, Joseph -- When using the en dash (–), everything appears to work properly when testing via tempshare.articulate.com as seen below:
I have also attached a quiz sample file in case you'd like to check it out. Hopefully that helps!
What am I doing wrong.....?????
- minus sign or dash....
yours did it to me as well....
teaching students to create a single tar file in Linux of the folder.
Hi, Joseph -- Thanks for your reply, and sorry to hear that issues persist! Can you share your file so I can see if I find different results? If you'd like to pass it along for private review, here is the form you'd need. And may I ask if you are testing the link on a PC or a Mac? If using a Mac, you'll need to hit "alt/command" and the "-" key to create an en dash (–) instead of a (-) hyphen.
I need to test people on using the "Minus Sign" "-" as that is what they need to use in Linux.
I could just make in multiple guess, however to properly perform the task that I am testing them on, they have to type the command in exactly as shown to create the compressed log files. I wouldn't have struggled with this as long as I have unless it was important. Been a few weeks for me before I contacted you. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the clarification, Joseph, and I will try to see if I am able to find success using the "-" hyphen or minus sign instead of an en dash in a test file, as well. Your patience is appreciated!
Hi, Joseph -- Thanks again and when testing my sample file (attached) with the "-" instead of the en dash, I am still not having difficulties. I tested via tempshare.articulate.com and received the "Correct" message when I entered the following (which I'd like to spell out with spaces and such so that I can verify that I am inputting it as you have intended:
tar(space)-cvf(space)log2016.tar(space)*
If you continue to have troubles, it would be helpful if you can attach your file here or provide it via the link I shared above so that we might isolate other potential causes of the difficulty you are experiencing.
tar(space)-cvf(space)log2016.tar(space)*
the last one worked "JPelton2.story". I'll add it to my original story and see how it works.
Thanks for the update, Joseph, and apologies that I inadvertently left out the "cvf" in the reply above, but I promise it was there in the file! Please let us know if that does the trick or if you still need additional assistance! :)
It worked! Thanks so much for your help.
Delighted to hear it, Joseph! Many thanks for the update. :)
