Accessibility with Screen Readers (Exams, Pause Button)

Jun 25, 2021

I use the Quiz Maker to create examinations for the courses I create using Storyline 3. I was contacted by a person who uses a JAWS screen reader and informed me that they were unable to select an answer. The questions I use are Graded Questions (multiple choice - select one or select more than one) and involve clicking a box and then clicking submit.

Are there instructions that I should be including to guide people on how to complete the examination using a screen reader? If so, what are those instructions?

Additionally, although I have the seek bar displayed, the individual said they were unable to pause the narration. Are there instructions that I can share with individuals who are using screen readers that explain how they engage with the seek bar to pause the narrative?

Thank you!

Hello Caroline!

I'm happy to help! Are you using Quizmaker 13 or Quizmaker 09? If so, those don't meet current accessibility guidelines, which is why your learner is running into issues.

I'd recommend building the questions in Storyline 3, so your learner can navigate through a course that is accessible. The learner should select a radio button or checkbox using Storyline 3 while also hearing the navigation.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
