Activate buttons across slides

Hi All
There is probably a fairly easy solutions to an issue I am trying to solve but after fruitlessly searching for the past hour I thought I would put it out there.... drum roll ...
I have a number of slides that have three identical buttons on each. I'd like to set it up so that the buttons can only be selected once regardless of which slide the learner is on. ie the selection will be remembered as the learner moves to the next slide and they won't be able to select this button anymore.
Can anyone assist with this please?

Hi Cathy
why don't you disable the button once it has been visited and then they can't select it again...you can make the disabled state look the same as the visited state if you want.
Sorry meant to add this link for you

if you still need help, you can upload your .story file and someone can assist you
Thanks for the quick response Wendy.
Will this work across slides though? I intended to have the active buttons on my base layers for all slides.
Hi Cathy
just so I am clear, you have many slides each with 3 buttons
slide 1 has 3 buttons (each button has an action)
slide 2 has 3 buttons (same look buttons - but different action to slide 1)
and so on...
are you in Australia - if so happy to chat with you to help you out.

Thanks Wendy. Can't call unfortunately but yep in Oz. Currently in Melbourne on a working break (a bit of an oxymoron ! ). You?
All three buttons have the same look - check document, talk to an advisor and choose best two responses.
although the look and text are the same on each slide they will have slightly different outcomes. For example slide 1 check document will lead to document X, slide 2 check document will lead the document Y but I only want to give them one chance overall at checking a document.
have only just begun creating my story .. so far its a jumbled mess on a notepad ... but will share once I get it in a position to.
Any other suggestions?
**Just realised that I probably can't put these on my base layer as the action will be changing with each slide !
Hi Cathy
yep on Gold Coast but just spent the weekend in Melbourne...
I think I get what you want. Perhaps using variables with states is probably a better way to go...will be easier once you have the structure in place to help you with a solution.
Let me know
Sorry maybe we're talking different things - when you say base layer do you mean Master slide?
ok will do a bit of a search on variables with states. half the problem is getting the terminology right !!
I'm not sure if they are different or not but its definitely called a base layer (of a slide). Appears in the bottom right hand corner on the slide view page.
If I get time tonight I try and do a little sample of what I think you want, maybe that will help you work through it - if not it will be a good starting point.
Crude sample but it might help you
Thanks for continuing to help Cathy here Wendy and providing an example :)
Morning Wendy. Thank you so much for following this up for me. I couldn't open your story in Explorer but once I'd searched another thread to find the solution to that issue and downloaded Chrome it worked a treat - loving how active and useful this community is !!
Anyway looks like your solution will work. Thank you. I just need to learn a little more (a lot more!) about variables and conditions.
I'll have a play around a bit more and let you know how I go.
Thanks again :)
No worries Cathy - shout out if you need more help...Good luck with your project!
Great job, Wendy, and delighted to hear you are enjoying the community, Cathy! Glad to have you! :)
Hi Wendy. So I have been able to incorporate your solution into my project but have run into another issue that I thought maybe you could assist with??
I am basically trying to recreate a 'who wants to be a millionaire game?' which is giving me some great practice on variables, triggers etc.
BUT I cant seem to work out the scoring ie how to carry it over from slide to slide. Well I've been able to do it for the base slides but I'm having trouble with the layers. specifically the 'correct' layers.
See attached story. When I click 'submit' on the 2nd or 3rd question the score does not immediately appear correct. However when I click 'Continue' and the next question appears the score is correct. I have racked my brain as to how to fix this but with no luck
Answers are ... if you want to recreate this in preview:
Hey Cathy
I'm interstate again and driving 3 hrs South of Sydney at the moment - will check it out later tonight for you
