I have gone to the player settings and made sure that the "pause" button option was selected however it only appears on the first slide and I need it on every slide of the presentation. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Are you referring to the play/pause button in the player seekbar?
You may want to double check that you haven't turned off the seekbar in the slide properties. Here's a quick way you can check every slide at one time:
Open Story View
Select all slides (Ctrl + A)
In Slide Properties, check that the seekbar is enabled (as shown below)
