Adding a print reference using a button

Jan 23, 2014

I am trying to add a print reference file by using an icon/button instead of the resources link in the player.  I add a trigger to the icon (jump to url/rile, on click), load the pdf fie.  In preview, I get a message saying that the interaction won't work in preview.  When I publish and click on the icon the file doesn't open.  any ideas?  I need to publish asap and the client is adamant we don't use resources in player.

Hi Tricia,

If I remember correctly, this is one of those features that won't work locally.

Can can you tell me how you're viewing the published presentation, please? Are you viewing the published output files locally, or are you uploading to a web server or LMS?

If you're viewing your published files locally, this may be the problem. If you view a published Storyline presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

If you do not have access to a web server or LMS for testing, you could try using SCORM Cloud.

Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.

You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

Let me know how it goes! :)

I was publishing for web, but testing locally.  I tried the Tempshare server and it seems that all is working in the intended environment.  It's frustrating that you can't test locally and rely on the results.  I am very thankful for the tempshare!  I was trying to figure out how to get a web environment so I didn't have to send the whole zip file to the clients.  Very, very helpful.
