Adding an object to a group with triggers
Oct 23, 2012
Hello,
I have about 15 groups, that each have triggers, which hold a rectangle and text object.
I now decided I would like to add an image object into each of those groups while maintaining the triggers.
I have tried to select the group and the new image, and select 'group' or 'regroup', but it will only create a brand new group, thus loosing the triggers. I also tried dragging the object into the group via the timeline, but it won't allow me to "drop" it in the group. I've also tried to cut and past the object while 'inside' the group on the stage, but that also does not work.
I might just have to recreate all of my triggers, but I'm wondering if there is a different solution in case I run into this again.
Thanks for your time!
John

you cannot add to a group only create a different group, what I normally do is group within the normal state this way you are only dealing with a single object which mean you can add triggers and add objects to that group
Hi Phil, Need some help with setting trigger conditions.
Under 'Add Trigger Condition' > List - I've selected Shapes > Under If, the dropdown list is not showing the grouped objects I have on my slide. It does show the objects, which make those groups, individually.
I'm attaching the story file. On my custom review slide, I want to set the trigger on whether a group has been selected or not. What do you think...bug or my mistake?
Hi Sij,
Thanks for sharing your file here - although based on this .story file, I'm not sure which grouped objects you're trying to assign the trigger too. Could you provide a bit more information, or even images of what you're trying to set up?
Hi Ashley,
Apologies I couldnt get to this earlier. I'm updating the story file again - with a few object names renamed for easier understanding,
As you can see in the timeline on the slide, I have two groups - Colour and Fruit.
In the question, I will be asking the learner to click and select which of the two groups is a colour. So, on the review slide, I would like to change the state of the arrows based on the group that was chosen by the learner.
Trigger wizard (image below) will not show the groups but only the the text box or the arrow.
The Trigger condition options (image below) would also not display either of the groups if I need to set a trigger based on the condition if a group was selected or not.
I would like the state of the 'Colour arrow' to be green/correct state on the review slide if the learner select the colour group on the question slide. Please advise.
Hi Sij,
Sorry I missed this with your original post, but you won't be able to change the state of objects within a group using a trigger. You'll want to ungroup them, and then you can assign the change state trigger to the pentagon shape. Also, you mentioned you wanted the "correct" state on the colour arrow, but the "correct" choice within the pick one is the fruit arrow, so you'll want to update that too.
Hello!
I'm trying to add a trigger to a group which contains an image & text box. I'd like the learner to be able to click on either the image or text box. Yet, it seems the only area that sparks the trigger is the image. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you!
Holly
You probably have the trigger attached to the image instead of the entire group. One thing I do to avoid this kind of thing from happening is instead of using group , I add the text to the normal state on the image.
Hi Nancy!
Thanks for your help and sorry to say, I'm not understanding. Can you say more?
Thank you for your help.
BTW: I ungrouped and regrouped the image/text box and still can't get the trigger to work.
Holly
Sure thing!
Thanks for the instructions, Nancy! I'll give it a try.
That worked! Thanks Nancy.
Great! it is just one way of doing this but it is my preferred method.
I'm going to look into other ways of using States like you've shown, Nancy. Your approach is awesome.
Thanks so much!
Holly
