Alt texts and hyperlinks for visually impaired. Please help!

Jun 24, 2019

Ok, so we have a nice piece of eLearning with alt texts for all relevant content which plays with Jaws. One page is all links for further reading. Question; how would a partially sighted or blind person experience these links? How can we allow the reader to click on the link when it starts being spoken?

We could do with a quick answer, anyone out there?

Hi Phil,

Excellent question! I suggest using a hotspot with a trigger to ‘Jump to url/file’ linking the web address there.

To avoid the reader automatically reading the web address when the user tabs to that text, you can adjust the alt text to say ‘Click for link to X’. For all things related to designing an accessible course, check out this article!

This is just one way to approach it. I wonder if the community has other suggestions!
