Analystics- Need to capture User's behavior (how muc time he spent on each slide, whether he clicked on tabs etc) and pass to LMS

Nov 17, 2016

Dear All,

My course contains different types of slides with animation, video , and tab interactivity. My client wanted to capture below items and pass on to LMS.

  • How much time user spent on each slide
  • Whether or not he clicked the buttons in each slide
  • How many attempts he took to give correct response in each question

I used variables to track them , captured as 'short answer' slide (for text variable); input numerical (for numerical variable ) and collated all of them into one result screen ( as in https://articulate.com/support/article/reporting-storyline-variables-to-an-lms). Then, linked this result screen to LMS reporting.

When I see the suspended data from LMS, all I see is junk text. I dont know what am missing here. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi there, IMGK.  Thanks for sharing your process here, and good work.  That's an undertaking!  Are you able to see that information if you were to test in SCORM Cloud?  I'd want to verify that Storyline is passing the correct information (which is detailed here).  If you can read the results in SCORM Cloud, I would investigate whether your LMS is able to otherwise interpret those results properly.

We're happy to help you test out, too.  You can use the Add Attachment button to share your file!

Thanks for your reply, Crystal Horn. I tested the package in SCORM cloud but couldnt see those data. I have attached the Story file here.. In this 3 slides, I am trying to capture time taken for each slide, 2nd Slide- whether or not user has visited 4 popups, each page type, Blooms type for each page, recommended duration for each page-- all these based on Client's requirement.

If you are capturing it in Short answer questions then you would need to ensure you are reporting to a results slide and that results slide is the end point of your course.

The data should then be stored as Interaction Data within the LMS and you should be able to run a report on the data.

As a note the number of attempts on questions will already be captured by the LMS.

The Resume data is not human readable so you are probably looking in the wrong place.

The data is a all store in the LMS using cmi.interactions. Short information about this can be found here http://scorm.com/blog/2010/11/4-things-every-scorm-test-should-do-when-reporting-interactions/

You should be able to run an interaction report, you definitely can on Scormcloud so this is where I would test first.
