Animation Completes: A bug or a feature?

Feb 17, 2015

Hello e-learning heroes!

So I have a notepad with 2 paragraphs of text on it in a slide. I have the text appear as a "Wipe-Down" animation to simulate hand-writing.

As soon as all the text appears, then I want an oval caption to appear.

I could not make such a simple thing work properly until I discovered something.

It will only work properly if the Effect Options in the Animation is set to "As One Object". If I try to set it to "By paragraph" the oval caption comes up right after the first paragraph, not the second one.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, so I thought I would throw it out there. You can see the behavior in the attached .story. Just change the effect options on the text box to see it both ways.

Hi John,

Thanks for sharing that file here - it looks as if Storyline is treating the first animation as it's own item, as you can even see there is a bit of a pause when the paragraph is animating to allow the other caption bubble to come in first. I'm going to share this with our QA team to confirm, but in the meantime I'd look at animating them as one object, or separating the text boxes and based the other captions appearance on when the final text box animation completes.
