Arial Unicode MS Alternative

Dec 28, 2021

I use Storyline to build modules for clients, and often we end up providing translated versions as well. Normally, I use Arial Unicode MS for any modules in Japanese and Arabic, and have had issues with other fonts displaying properly. Since Microsoft is no longer supporting Arial Unicode MS, has anyone found an alternative font that works just as reliably with translated modules?

Thank you!

Hello Articulate Staff.

I'd also like the answer to this question. Can you please recommend any font family that can be used when translating Storyline files to non-English languages? Preferably one that doesn't crash or encounter bugs when published?

I've experienced crashing and bug issues when using a custom font that is not part of the SL Theme fonts.

Thanks!

Hello Dao,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this behavior.

You can check out this article for a full list of fonts that you can use for your project:

And here's another helpful article on using custom fonts.

You can start by using Lato, Open Sans, and Montserrat to see if you will still encounter crashing and font related issues when publishing your course. You'll also want to make sure that you're publishing locally to minimize the risk of encountering any issues when publishing a course.

If the issue with the fonts persists, try doing a repair of your Storyline 360 installation. If that doesn't work, would you be willing to share a copy of one of your affected project files here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
