Articulate Online and Storyline issues
Jan 16, 2014
Howdy
I am having issues when people are using the same computer to complete a module. I am using the guest book for participants, once they have completed the module and someone else in the office uses the same computer all there log in details are saved. If they change their details and log in it was taking them to where the last person ended the module, which was the last slide rather than taking them to the start.
I think the issues was that I had it on resume where I left off on ,I have now changed that and I am testing to see if it works, but now if I put different details in during log on, and try the start the module it comes up with the big loading wheel and it wont go away (screen shot attached). I can click through the slides but the wheel just stays there.
The other issue is it doesn't seem to be capturing the data for each individual person in Articulate online . For example if I sign in with the name Peter and do the module and get 100% , then close in and log in with the name James, and get 100%, and then check results using the articulate online report of how people answered it changes the previous name to the last name entered. So it will change the name James to Peter, so I have two scores for peter. It also doesn't register the two names as unique visitors ?
Anyone got any ideas , any help would be much appreciated
cheers
Michael

Hi Michael,
It sounds like the web browser is still keeping some information in it's cache. Are you able to conduct the same test, but before your log in as Peter clear out your history and cache? If you'd like us to give it a test as well, can you share access to the AO course with us here? Or if you'd prefer you can also share it with our support team here.
Hi Ashley
Thanks for your help much appreciated.
That seemed to work I did the test again and the new entry didn't end up changing the data of anyone else already recorded. I emailed the articulate Online support team before positing here and they have suggested the following article, which I didn't really see how it would help my situation.

Is there anyway to avoid getting users to have to clear the cache as I did. Is there anything I can do before I publish ?
Thanks
Michael
Hi Michael,
Generally, content developers and designers run into more caching issues than end users/learners. That's because when we make changes, we tend to test the content multiple times - this is pretty normal and understandable. The down side to this is that the web browsers we use store that data, so we may not always see the most recent version of the project we viewed.
One tip - keep a secondary browser (at least) handy for testing. If something strange pops up, test it in that other browser. Clearing your cache regularly will help as well, but sometimes it can be a tedious process if you're constantly publishing, uploading and viewing your project.
End users/learners really only tend to have caching issues if they view the exact same course many times. It's really not something that's controlled by the course, but the web browser being uses. These can vary from person to person and preference. If you have learners that are consistently refreshing or returning to the same content over and over again, it might help to put a little notice in the course that they should clear their cache - but I would really only recommend this if you expect this to be an issue with your project, or if you hear complaints.
Thanks!
Hi Christine
Thanks heaps for your help much appreciated.
In regards to users/learners, The issue or complaint that came through was from someone that had viewed the content on a terminal that someone else had used previously. When the went to log in using the guestbook someone else's data was there so they deleted the old data and put their own details in and went to access the course. Cause I had the course as resume where you left off it took them to the end of the course and they had to get back to the start using the side menu. I have now taking that feature off which I thought would fix my issue, but that is when I stumbled across the issues mentioned above.
Is this something that would commonly happen while using the guestbook??
And if this is happening is the only way around it as you suggested to get them to clear their cache each time??
Any suggestions you have would be a huge help
Regards
Michael
Hi Michael,
If you have multiple users accessing the course from the same machine, it will definitely come to a caching issue at some point.
What I usually recommend is this:
Also, this may help:
Using a guestbook with multiple users on the same computer
Hopefully one or both of those suggestions will work for you :)
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!
Hello,
do the same solution possibilities apply when multiple users are accessing the course through the same login details?
Our initial intention was to track the attendance through the guestbook responses, however, now that we encountered the problem with ever-changing data in the guestbook, I presume this is not possible.
Would you recommend any other tracking possibility when there are multiple individuals accessing the course through the same email login but we do need to distinguish between these as well? Perhaps through survey/quiz responses?
Thank you very much for your help!
Cheers.
Dagmar
Hi Dagmar,
Having users log into Articulate Online with the same email will cause some tracking issues as they could be overriding the other users score or answers. Is there a reason you need to have them log in with the same email address as opposed to just using the guest book to capture name and such?
Hello,
thank you for replying. Unfortunately there is a reason, the e-learning is for store teams, and because of the turnover, it is much more logical to do the access permissions on a store level.
Hi Dagmar,
Have you looked into the Guestbook feature? This would allow you to gather information about whose taking the course without having to set up individual accounts or permissions for each of them? If they'll all be accessing from the same computer, you may want to follow the method here for using a guestbook with multiple users on the same computer
