Articulate Output File - Progress Data

Dec 13, 2022

Hi,

I am currently evaluating a WP Learning Management System who allege to accept SCORM Packages from several authoring tools.  From the evaluation process the answer me a question and stay "some SCORM Packages such as Articulate doesn't allow getting the progress data outside of the SCORM Package.  So, records will be available only inside the SCORM Package."

Is above statement thru or the limitations are really in their LMS System to manage SCORM Packages?

Thanks

Hello Carlos,

Thanks for reaching out!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you're asking about whether you can access reporting/progress data without uploading a published course to an LMS. If I understood you correctly, then yes, you'll need to upload your published Storyline 360 courses to an LMS in order to access progress data. Storyline 360 does not generate this data on its own, so progress data will not be available without an LMS.

Thanks Joe,

My question is really coming because during the evaluation/demo process I was not able to upload any SCORM generated output to their LMS.  I tried using Articulate and two other authoring tools, but the outcome was always the same; the zip file was never able to pass even small in size 5MB.

1- I am using the zip output button for this purpose but they said Articulate does not generate the lmsmanifest.xml directly into the root directory which I proved wrong on the samples provided.

2- I cleaned the browser cache and tried on 3 different browsers - same outcome (I don't get any error code or message).

3- They are also telling me that SCORM authoring tool Articulate will publish packages where the imsmanifest.xml file is in the correct place, but there are several lines of white space in the manifest file if you do not fill out the Reporting and Tracking Options in Articulate for Keywords and LMS Description you will get similar results but all those field are filled.

4- Last but not least, on regards to your kind answer, my interpretation from their statement is that SCORM Packages (like the once produced by Articulate), are not able to provide accessibility to pull results/statistic for LMS reporting.  I think this is not correct and misleading in terms of the authoring tool capabilities.

At this time, I don't know if crash the LMS Evaluation or keep working around this.

Thanks for your support,
