assistance requested with setting quiz variables in storyline

Feb 16, 2015

Hello,

I need to set quiz variables in storyline to not allow the learner to go the next slide until after they have passed the quiz. The learner needs to score 100% before going to the next slide exiting the course.

I have tried establishing numerous variables and triggers in storyline, but nothing seems to work.

Any help that the community can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I can't upload the actual training because it is proprietary.

However, I am uploading a similar file sample. Basically we need to 2 things to happen.

1. If the learner clicks the next button after they complete and fail the quiz, if they can't proceed to the next slide. They need to click the retry button and try the quiz again.

2. After they pass the quiz  and click next button, they can proceed to the final slide.

The threhold is 100%. All of the questions must be answered correctly.

If I could see how the triggers and variables are set up I can replicate them in the actual training.

I would like to keep the current next and previous button in place to make the course look consistent with the other modules.

Thank you for your help.  I really appreciate it.

Hi Liliana,

Thanks for sharing your file here - it looks like you had some extra triggers that were unneeded, and then the final trigger to jump to slide 1.9 was set based on Results.PassPercent - which is always going to be 100 so that may be where you were running into issues. I cleaned up the other triggers and changed that one to Results.ScorePoints and then scoring below 100 doesn't allow me to continue to the next slide.

Is this what you're looking to do?

Thank you for your help. It looks like the trigger is missing to reset the quiz answers when the learner clicks retry quiz or the next button if they fail. Also there should be some type of message, when the learner clicks the Next button, stating they need to pass the quiz to continue. Can that be done through branching or some type of a pop up message?

Thank you for your help. I am intermediate user. The triggers and variables are still somewhat challenging for me.

So here are my next questions:

1. Regarding the Reset quiz questions when the user clicks retry quiz or the next button, how would I set that up?

2. What would be the best way to let the learner know that they need to retry the quiz before they can proceed.

Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated. I will following the same format for the triggers that you created and add them to my training module.

It would be greatly appreciated if the two questions above could be answered also.

Again, thank you very much for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi Liliana,

Sorry - I didn't test or utilize the reset/retry functionality as I didn't notice if you said it wasn't working. The trigger you're looking for is "reset results" and you'll want to apply that trigger to when the user clicks the retry button - and ensure its before the "jump to slide" trigger.

What I would do, is remove the retry button from the base layer, and set it to only appear on the Failure layer. I'd also provide some additional wording to users there letting them know they have to retry the quiz and need to score 100% to continue.
