audio corruption

Oct 10, 2013

I am building a course with storyline, and am getting super frustrated with the audio. we are importing custom audio from voice actors, and we have formatted them into .wav files (as instructed by the articulate team) and everything works great until I put something new into the page be it a new image, text field, or even assigning a trigger to the audio piece. The audio piece then becomes corrupted placing 5-10 extra seconds of silence at the end of the audio and changing the length of the page.

Has anyone else had this issue, and have some potential fixes? I am getting sick of re-importing the audio every time there is a fix for a page.

Hi, Boyd!

I know that  I have had times where I added an audio file to a slide, made my adjustments to the object timings as needed, saved the file, and then when I previewed, the timing was off again, and I had to tweak the timings again in the timeline and re-save.  Not sure if I somehow jostled something, or if there's a gremlin in the system, but it has happened more than once.  I am working in Parallels on a Mac to run Storyline, so I have wondered if that might be a factor in my case.

I have also found (and have reported to Articulate) that when adding audio to a slide, then adjusting object timings and then previewing it, the latest timing adjustments to the slide objects don't preview accurately.  When that happens, I've found that if I return to the Story View tab, click on any other slide, and then click back on the slide I'm editing, then the timing adjustments refresh and preview properly.  But wonky as that is, I haven't had to re-import my audio tracks to adjust the object timings.

Not sure if that's what you're talking about, but if not, perhaps someone else can chime in to help out.  (Or are you saying that somehow 5-10 seconds of silence is actually added to the audio track itself, and visible as such in the audio editor?  I"m hoping it's not the that, as that would be really bizarre.)

Andrew

Hi Boyd,

I see that Jayem replied to your case with the following:

The behavior that you are seeing is expected. If the object that you are copying has a longer duration than the target slide, the timeline will automatically increase to accommodate the duration of the copied object. It does not retain the target slide's original duration.

Unfortunately, there are no settings to avoid this. You will need to manually adjust your slide's timeline after paste or import.
