I started out using Storyline to record narration for my presentations without any trouble. However, I began experiencing audio cutout requiring me to re-record. This has steadily gotten worse so that I have to record using a different tool. The ability to record within Storyline was one of the features I liked when choosing a multimedia presentation tool.
When you say it just cutouts, do you mean it stops recording? It sounds like odd behavior, and first I'd want to confirm that your running Storyline update 4 and working with local project files? You'll also want to check that your recording devices are set up as described here. Next, I'd suggest conducting a repair to solve any other odd issues.
When I say cutting out, it's like my recording skips. It records, but every few words or so, it skips and leaves out portions of the audio. When I first began using Storyline a few months ago, it might only do it once in a while, and I could re-record and get past it. But as time went by, it gradually got worse to where I couldn't get a recording at all without multiple skips (and this was recording only a couple of sentences).
I am working with local files. I was not on update 4, so I updated and tried again. It is now much better, but in three separate test recordings, I got one skip in two of three.
I have heard users reporting an issue where if they have Storyline open, and are making a lot of audio edits, the playback becomes choppy. It seems to resolve for them when closing Storyline and reopening it. It's not something we've been able to recreate, and as you mentioned it happens intermittently. I'm glad update 4 helped it out a bit, and if you're able to recreate it consistently, please let us know and under what conditions it occurs and then we'll be able to do some further testing.
Just sharing something that happened for me. When I was first using Storyline, audio recording seemed to function properly but then would just intermittently drop. I had even opened a support ticket with Articulate and everyone was stumped. I was using the built in microphone port on the computer at the time. On a fluke I tried a USB microphone for recording and have never had an issue since! Who would have figured?
Hello. I have been having the EXACT same issue that Lara was having in this original post. I used to be able to record audio with no issues, but then the audio started cutting out when I would play it back. Now it happens every time I record. It is impossible to get through a recording on the first attempt. VERY time consuming and frustrating. It sounds like the audio just skips ahead. I have tried using other microphones. Was there ever a resolution to this for Lara?
The most recent update of Storyline 1, is update 7 accessible here. Is that the one you downloaded and installed?
I don't see any further information from Lara, so I'm unsure what solved it for her. Did you try with different microphones? Rebooting Storyline and your computer? Can you tell us a bit more about your set up in terms of Windows version, if you've tried recording in any other environments, etc.?
Hi Ashley. Yes, I have the most recent storyline update (7). I am using Windows 7 professional. I have tried using other microphones. I have tried rebooting but as I mentioned it happens every time I record. I don't think I have attempted recording outside of the office recently. It used to work fine in my office, but perhaps I could try recording at home and see if there is a difference. Thanks for the response. I use storyline to create all of my organization's internal trainings for staff (and all have narration) so this is a BIG issue for me.
My apologies, I didn't mean an actual different physical environment, but recording sound in another program on your computer - not Storyline. Although it would help if you were able to record at home and see if that worked too!
If it used to work fine, I'm curious if you know when it stopped working...was it associated with an update? It may be something as simple as a repair, and if that doesn't work we'll want to get you into a support case so we can assist in pulling system logs from your computer.
Oh, got it. Yes, I am able to record in other programs without any issues (using same computer and mic). The audio problems in storyline started in the summer, although I'm not sure of the exact date. I remember the project that I was working on and it would have been in June or July.
Ok - have you gone through the repair steps? If so, please use the link here to connect with our support team so that we can gather some more information.

Hi Lara, what type of microphone are you using?

Thanks Duane for sharing that here!

Hi Amy! As you can see above, it looks as if Update 4 provided some assistance for Lara, but no other updates since then.
Are you utilizing the latest update and working locally?
I just installed the new update today hoping that it would help, but no change. I am working locally.

I tried a repair a few months ago. I will connect with support. Thanks.
Thanks Amy - if you'd like to let us know your case number once you've connected with our support team we can follow along as well.
