Audio Degraded When Exported from Storyline
Feb 05, 2021
Recently, we are finding that exporting an MP3 from Storyline dramatically degrades the quality of that audio file, making it pretty much unusable. This is troubling for us because we have hundreds of courses that need updating and we have grown accustomed to downloading the final version of an audio file that needs updating from Storyline, editing that file, and then re-inserting it.
As a test, I uploaded a small file in a new, blank SL course with a "before" audio file, and then exported it to an "after" audio file. No other actions were taken. See attached for the result. You should hear a very noticeable difference.
We are running the latest version of Articulate 360. We have tested this on two computers, two different SL licenses.

Your original file is compressed at 94k, Keith, but the "After" is down to 32k, accounting for the degradation. In your Publish settings, could you check that under Quality, the Audio bitrate is set to 96k?
Hi Mark,
No publishing is involved in the degradation of the audio file. Import MP3 file. Export MP3 file. Audio is degraded. But THANK YOU for showing that degradation is happening by showing 94k and 32k!
Can anyone else replicate this Storyline bug? The audio quality of any MP3 file that is exported from Articulate Storyline is automatically degraded. We've been using Storyline since 2011 and haven't had any problems with MP3 export until very recently.
Thanks in advance!
Hello Keith!
I'd like our Support Engineers to step in and troubleshoot this issue with you! I've started a case on your behalf so we can see what is causing the quality of the audio to change when exporting from Storyline. You'll hear from our team shortly!
Hi All!
I wanted to report back on this. Support got with me very quickly and showed me how I had audio set for "compressed" within Storyline. My audio exports now work perfectly. Thank you, Articulate!
