Audio files missing from Storyline

Dec 30, 2019

I worked on a course in October and published it for review. I have some feedback to update now and have gone back into the saved course but all of the audio files are now missing. I have the course backed up as well and the backup has the same issue. The audio is over 100 slides so there is no way it can have been deleted accidentally. This represents 2 days of work so I am keen not to have to redo it all again (for free) - please can you advise how I can get the audio back? I tried importing the slides into a new storyline and also republishing with no luck.

Hi, Rob!

That must be frustrating, and I'd love to help you get to the bottom of this. A few quick questions:

  • Was the audio inserted from a file or were they recorded narrations? Also, what version of Storyline you're using? Go to Help > About Storyline.
  • Can I confirm that you're working on a local hard drive? Working on a shared drive can cause similar oddities, so I always like to rule that out as the culprit at first.

And if you can attach the .story file here, I'm happy to take a thorough look! If you need to keep the course private, please use this upload link

Hi Katie,

Thanks for your reply I really hope we can solve this as soon as possible
as it is going to prove very expensive otherwise.

Also, what version of Storyline you're using? Go to *Help* > About
Storyline.

these were files that I have uploaded

Working on a shared drive can cause similar oddities, so I always like to
rule that out as the culprit at first.

The files are both from my own hard drive and also a backup in Google
Drive. I have a number of files in the Google drive and none of them have
the audio anymore, however, they were definitely there when uploaded and
last saved as I published to review 360 which has the audio intact. Also,
the files with the audio are around 15-20 mb larger than the ones without
the audio so there must still be something there taking up that additional
room but it is as though it cannot be read.

I have uploaded to the link that you provided - it is a support case from
what I can see is that right?

I have uploaded the one from my harddrive (version 4) and also the latest
one from my google drive (version 4(1)) - they should be exactly the same
and indeed neither have the audio files on them. The last thing that I did
was add the menu bar which has been saved and then I republished to review
360. the review file has the audio on it so it was still intact at that
point. Interestingly the previous version (before i added the menu) also
has no audio now so it cant have been the republish that did it (I don't
think)
