Audio on some layers will not play

Aug 18, 2016

I have three elements to my course;  Activities, Hints and Remedial. The problem exists with the audio for the Hints, which are Activity layers. In most instances the audio plays fine, but on a few slides there is no sound. I have compared the defective layer settings to ones that are working and can not find a difference.

Do you have any suggestions on what I should look for?

Hey Ron.  That's frustrating when the broken elements are set the same way as the functional ones...no real clues there.  I would focus on the audio files themselves, since other files seem to function just fine.

I would check to make sure that your audio files are functional outside of Storyline.  What format are they; are they the same as your functional audio files?

What happens if you insert those audio files in a new Storyline file, specifically in a layer?  Are they still behaving the same way?

As always, your welcome to share your .story file here or even your audio files for us to do a little testing for you.

Thank you for the response Crystal.

Actually, as I gave this more thought The timeline does not play at all. I first noticed this when some animations did not play.

I can preview the audio by itself and it plays fine. All the audio files are text to speech files (MP3) created using Text Aloud.

I think the real problem is the timeline is locked up.

I wanted to let you know the problem has been solved and the fix was very simple. All I had to do was uncheck "Hide slide layer when timeline finishes" box.
