Audio play button must be clicked twice to play...

Nov 23, 2015

Hiya,

I have audio files attached to each Storyline v2 slide, with triggers. I have tried using both MP3 & Wave files. The audio defaults to off allowing the learner the choice to listen or not to listen. The learner can click the pay button to listen, then click again to turn off.

My problem is that when viewing the course, or when published, the learner has to initially click each play button twice to play the audio. The slides are set to a saved state enabling the learners to revisit. Once the audio has played through on a slide if the learner revisits they only have to click the play button once to hear the audio.

I cannot figure out how to get this button to click once....help!

Maree,

What happens when Sound1 is clicked:

1. It sets the state of sound 1 to Selected

2. It starts playing media Audio - 1

3. It pauses media Audio - 1, because the state of sound1 is selected

These 5 steps are completed before you hear a sound.

The next time Sound1 is clicked:

1. It sets the state of Sound to normal

2. It starts playing media Audio - 1

3. It does not pause audio because the state of Sound1 is normal

This kind of toggling cannot be done with only one object, because all triggers are evaluated on each click, and one or the other state will never change, no matter what order they are. You must use a third object that only changes after the other triggers are evaluated. Some people use an object that has the normal and selected states invisible. I prefer to use a variable. Variables are less work to create, easier to find for future maintenance, and are more reliable. (States can be changed if you change the revisit action on a slide, and sometimes if you visit too many intervening slides, they change spontaneously.)

These triggers will probably work.
