Audio Recording Stuttering after recent updates?

Apr 01, 2020

G'day everyone :-)

Is anyone experinecing issues with stuttering audio recording in Storyline 360 after the recent update? I haven't had issues with it before - long time user since SL1- but have had to resort to reording in Adobe Audition and importing instead of using the native recorder. I have plenty of storage space, no other tech issues with audio playback, only inside SL.

Cheers,
Jim

Interestingly, noticed something else. If I import a standard .mp3 file created externally to the main slide & timeline, no problems, it plays perfectly. If, however,  I import that same .mp3 audio file onto a new layer, or attempt to edit it an apply Closed Captions to it (with the SL native audio editor) the same audio stuttering occurs.  Hmmmmm...

Hi Jim,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing those details!

Does the stuttering audio appear to be happening in every project you are working on? If so, then it may be worth it to try to repair Storyline 360. A simple repair usually resolves the issue, and you can find more details on how to do this here:

If the repair didn't seem to help, please let us know!

Cheers for chipping in, Vincent.

It occurred after the most recent SL360 update. However, as I was up to my elbows in the course I was working on, I haven't tried creating a new SL course to retest the functionality, but will do shortly.

Thanks for the tip about the repair. However, the process appears identical to the manual removal and reinstall process that I'd tried earlier i.e. instead of actually repairing critical files on an installation of SL360 like Windows or Adobe do when attempting to 'repair' faulty installations.

Hi Jim!

Thank you for sharing those extra details! I recreated this on my end and didn't hear any stuttering in the audio.

Here's what I did:

  1. Opened a new project in Storyline 360.
  2. Imported a .mp3 file from my local drive and added it to a Layer.
  3. Played the audio in the Closed Captions Editor and added captions.
  4. Previewed the course and didn't have any issues with audio stuttering.

Are there any steps I missed?

Also, where are you importing the audio from? Have you tried adding a duplicate version of the audio and saving it on a local drive?

If you have the file, I'm happy to test it on my end. You can either share it in this discussion by using the Add Attachment button or share the file privately by using this link.
