Audio trigger not working when system audio is disabled

Apr 19, 2017

I am wondering how Storyline 2 determines when an audio is complete. Is it based on reaching the end of the audio file on the timeline or is it based on the audio actually being played back through a device?

We have a client who has contacted us with an issue with a course we developed in Storyline 2 and published for SCORM 1.2. The client has a group of learners who cannot get past a particular slide as nothing happens when they click the next button. On this slide, the next button trigger has a condition that the variable "slidecomplete" must be equal to true. We also have a trigger set up on the voiceover audio that will set the variable "slidecomplete" equal to true when the media (the voiceover) completes.

The only thing that is unique to this group of learners is that their computers have all audio playback devices disabled by default (I believe the intent is for them to read through the script as they run the unit).

Hey Ali!

I'm also curious to know whether you've seen this issue. Since you published for LMS, SCORM Cloud is a handy (and free!) tool for testing the file.

I'd be happy to take a peek into your file if you don't mind sharing it. You can attach it here by using the ADD ATTACHMENT button, or you can send it directly to our Support Engineers here if you’d prefer to send it privately.

I have not been able to replicate the issue, however my client sent me the following:

I enable my playback device (speakers) and click previous I can then get through (no refresh / relaunch required).  If I close out, disable my speakers again and launch resuming bookmark I can click previous and the next button works on that page.  If I launch, but do not resume I end up getting stuck again.

I can go back in and set the variable to true at the end of the timeline, but I am curious if it is truly the audio trigger that is causing the issue. We have several other clients using the course with no issue.

I will try contacting the support engineers.
