Auto resize of text boxes when using variables in text

Jan 13, 2021

Hi there,

Building a crumbtrail for the navigation and I'm wanting to use variables so I can standardise the design in Masters - %slide_title% etc.

Doesn't seem to resize the text box based on the variable length. Seems to default to reducing the text size matter the choice you make in the menu with "Shrink text on overflow" and "Resize shape to fit text" in it. Any advice?

Also looking for it to resize automatically horizontally but not vertically as it needs to stay within a certain height of the crumbtrail. Will this be possible even?

Thanks

Hi, Laith,

Here's how the text box settings are designed to work:

  • "Do not autofit" maintains the size of the object. Extra text extends below the border.
  • "Shrink text on overflow" decreases the text size to fit within the borders of the object.
  • "Resize shape to fit text" only adjusts the height of the object. It doesn't adjust the width

Because the program doesn't adjust the width of the object, I suggest that you adjust the object to be as wide as possible on the slide.

  • Set to "Do not autofit."
  • If the longest breadcrumb would fit in that width, you can keep the height just enough for one line.
  • Otherwise, adjust the height to accommodate as many lines as needed.
