Storyline Variable Text - uneven left margin

Mar 04, 2021

Text composed of a series of variables is displaying with an uneven left margin.
When the variable values are changed, the left margin shifts and sometimes the text size as well.

The text field is set to not resize, and has been set to the same text size.

Important as this is an exercise in formatting.

Hello Alexander!

Thank you so much for sharing the .story file! After looking at the project, I see the same behavior where the left margin starts at a different point for each variable. I want our Support Engineers to take a look at your project. Would you mind sharing it with our team in a support case?

After looking at your project, they'll reply with their findings and a possible fix!

Hi Erica!

Thank you for sharing that you're running into this as well! We've logged this behavior, where text spacing is changing/missing when a reference variable is included in a text box as a software bug. I've added your comments to our report and will advocate on your behalf. I'll make sure to update you in this discussion when we have more information!

Hello Alexander and Erica,

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360 and included a few important fixes you'll see in the release notes.

The item you'll be interested in is:

Fixed: Combining text and variables references in the same object could cause spacing or alignment issues in the published output.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.

Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Thank you for notifying me.
We tested the update this morning and it is working for us.
Just as we were scheduled to release the course.
