Awkward Rise course exit when using Storyline Quiz to pas/fail

Jul 18, 2023

Hi,
I have been using the Interactive Storyline Block successfully for many years now. I know how to do it.

My colleague who left the company created a Rise Course and a final assessment developed in Storyline that he embedded within the Rise course through the Storyline block. The assessment comes up at the very end of the Rise course. Rise course completion is tracked to a successful mastery of the Storyline test in the block. Learners must achieve 80% or above to master the course.

Here's the issue (not for all learners, but a few): At successful completion of the the storyline test, you must click the Storyline exit button, or you will not receive credit for the assessment. Some folks move past that Storyline exit button and click the Rise Exit Course button, and therefore, receive no credit for the test.

Is there a trigger that I can add to Storyline that automatically completes the assessment upon successful mastery of the Storyline test so that learners don't have to click two buttons?

Try this: Put a Completion trigger on the Success layer of the Results slide.

Also, to help prevent folks from exiting too soon, I'd put a CONTINUE button under the SL block. That would indicate that the course isn't quite over. Then just put a "Congratulations. Now you're done" message after that.

Hi! Thanks so much for responding!

There is definitely a CONTINUE button under the storyline block where you have to complete the test, prior to moving on.

This is what I tried yesterday. I don't have access to the full LMS  to try this out (just UAT), but I'll be sending this on to Admin. I've attached a copy of the trigger I added to the Success layer of the Results slide.

Please take a look to see what you think. I also added a trigger that ends the course when the timeline ends. It may be superfluous (or useless).

Again, thank you so much!!

Hello Linda,

Happy to help!

Looks like you've already gone through the completion criteria discussed in this article:

Adding a 'Continue' block with the completion type set to 'Complete Block Directly Above' should prevent your learners from exiting the course too early.

You can also add a text block after the 'Continue' block that will signify that a learner has reached the end of the course and that it is safe to exit.

If this isn't working as expected for you, I'd recommend opening a case with our support team here so you can share your Rise 360 for testing. We'll delete it when we're done testing!
