Base layer starts from beginning

May 28, 2013

When I click the trigger to jump to a 2nd layer, I have the base layer stop.  When I click the trigger to return to the base layer, it's starting from the beginning instead of where I left off.  Is there a setting I missed?

The file is attached and the button/trigger is at around 58 seconds.

Please help......Thanks much.....Lisa

Hi there Lisa,

First, it looks like it was actually the video that's restarting, not the entire timeline. For example, if I previewed the presentation and then clicked on the button tied to the new layer, everything seemed to pause just fine. However, upon returning to the base layer, the video restarts - the content, on the other hand, is still displaying from the timeline as if it had been paused.

It took me a bit to figure out why this is happening. First, I copied the video over to another slide and created a temporary "Pause" layer that functioned when a button was clicked. This worked just fine..

So, I went back to the main slide you're using and decided to try adjusting the settings for the layer. I disabled the option to "Hide objects on base layer", and this seems to have fixed the issue.

So, I went through the timeline on the layer and manually hid each object on the base layer. Now, it was back to restarting the video again. I left all objects except for the video as hidden and viola, the pause works again.

I'm not entirely sure what's happening with that video and why it restarts if it's been hidden, but hopefully this helps. I did add a little bit of background to the layer, so the video isn't seen through the layer itself (appears to be hidden).

Please take a look at the modified file and let me know if this works for you.

Thanks!
