Block retry failed exam

Apr 11, 2018

I have a exam at the end of a course where I've set it so that the user has 3 attempts at the exam and if they fail on the last attempt, they fail the course.

The issue that is coming up is that they are able to go back into the exam and do it again. It is like they have 3 more tries at the exam.

We don't want them to be able to go back in to retry the exam.

Would I need to set the Resume setting in Storyline to "Always Resume"?

I've read in other posts that if a user goes back into an exam where it was set to Always Resume, the exam grade is set to 0%. Is there a way for the system to remember their grade if they try to go back in the exam?

Thanks.

Hi Jane,

Always Resume would bring them back to where they left off and it shouldn't reset their score in Storyline, but you may want to reach out to your LMS team about what happens if a user accesses a course for the second time. Some LMSs would consider the course to be in Review mode if the user has already reached the completion requirement, others may reset the course as a whole.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your response. I have the exam set to Pass/Fail so if the user fails the exam, then the LMS we use will show them as having failed the course. With the way the exam is set up, they are able to go back in and do the exam again as they had never attempted it 3 times and pass it to show that the course is completed which isn't what we want.

Do you know if there is a way to disable the link to an exam if a user has already tried the exam and failed? I have the exam as a separate course unit from the course itself.

Is this something that I would need to ask our LMS?

Jane
