Branching to different slides

I've got a slide with two objects on it, and I have created layers and triggers so that when you click on on object 1, layer 1 is displayed; and click on object 2 displayers layer 2. When they're on layer one that click Next and it takes them to question1; when they're on layer 2 they click Next and it should take them to question 2, but it goes to question 1. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Triggers look like this:
Show layer 1 when the user clicks
Show layer 2 when the user clicks
Player triggers look like this:
Jump to 1 when the user clicks the Next button
Jump to 2 when the user clicks the Next button
Any help appreciated!

Have a look at the attached file and see if that's what you wanted. I use a variable to identify which layer is being displayed. Based on that variable, the Next button jumps to either question 1 or 2.
