Browser dark mode changes black text to white

May 25, 2023

Users who have dark mode enabled on their browser are having an issue where black text on white background turns the text white (invisible). Is there a setting I can toggle within storyline to address this issue? Or is it browser specific?

Hi Kayla!

It sounds like your learners were running into some visibility issues with dark text against a lighter background when a dark mode theme is enabled on their browsers. I'd be happy to help!

Testing this out on my end, I put together a two-slide sample course and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud. I set my browser (Google Chrome Version 113.0.5672.92) to dark mode and was unable to reproduce the same behavior.

As you can see the text from both slides, with contrasting light and dark colors, were displaying without issues.

I just had some follow up questions to get a better idea of your setup:

  • Are your learners experiencing this issue across different browsers and devices or just a specific one?
  • If you're learners are accessing the course through an LMS, have you tested it in SCORM Cloud? It's an online LMS environment that can be used to figure out whether the issue is with the LMS or the .story file itself. If you test your course in SCORM cloud and the dark mode theme does not affect the content of the course, then your issue could be LMS based.

Hope this helps! Looking forward to hearing from you!
