Buggiest Software I have ever used
Feb 23, 2015
I don't know what the rest of you are experiencing, but I find Articulate Storyline to be the buggiest software I have ever used. Let me give you just a few examples:
I'm working with fonts in my master slides. I change the font and suddently the SIZE of the font changes to 198.5 pt. Change the font again and it's 4728.5pt. I click on the down arrow to change the font size back to something reasonable and boom, the font size changes again this time to 1638pt. I am finally able to change the font size to 28pt only to find that the font that SHOULD be displaying is not displaying and something that looks like Arial is. I am also not able to commit the font with the return key (only tab works).
MAYBE if I'm lucky, the changes will propagate down to the other layouts in the master but probably not. Whether the format painter works or not is another crapshoot. But, why did I bother to do any of this because when I choose to reapply the layout it changes positively nothing. Maybe if I click away and then click back it will recognize the new layout. Or maybe it will just stop showing my fonts altogether.
All in all, I am miserable working with Storyline. I thought PowerPoint was bad, but this makes PowerPoint practically a joy to work with.
Sorry, but that's how I really feel.

Hello Lisa,
Sorry to hear you are having issue with Storyline. I want to confirm that you are working locally with your files as described here. You may also want to look at the information in this article to see if repairing the software helps.
Hi Lisa -
That sounds horrid. Definitely try a reinstall or repair as this isn't normal.
The only issue you describe above that I can replicate is the tab vs. enter to commit changes.
The font resizing isn't something I've seen. Is this something you could run a screen recording for if a repair doesn't straighten it out? It's not something that I can replicate on my end. Tried punishing the fields for a couple of minutes and it's working as I'd expect it to.
Master layout applies and the format painter are also working OK in my tests.
To be fair, I'm using VMWare on my Mac. Nevertheless, I tried an install on a Windows 7 machine but it runs incredibly slow and I still have the same problems with text and applying . Now I am unable to create a master layout for my quiz questions. No matter what formatting I apply Storyline insists on formatting it in a different way. If I recreate the slide completely, when I open the file, it's back to the old way.
I have a video of the problems I'm having but I would prefer to send it to someone personally as it contains some confidential information.
Hello Lisa,
You can upload the file privately here.
Hi Emily,
Thanks for you help. I sent the video and the story file.

Another bug report: Changing the line spacing of a title in the master to anything but single does nothing.
Hi Lisa,
If you'd like us to take a look at a particular issue, we'll want to see an example .story file so that we're able to see what you're describing and then report it to our team. You can share it here, or send it along to our support team here.
Thanks Ashley, I sent it.
Thanks Lisa - if you have a case number I'm happy to follow along.
The case number is 00603710.
Thanks Lisa for submitting a case and sharing the case number. I took a look and it seems Victor was able to replicate this issue and shared the following with you:
We were able to duplicate the issue that you've reported and have submitted your case to our Quality Assurance team for their review. The issue appears to occur when editing Paragraph settings on Slide Master. As a workaround, you can manually adjust the line spacing on actual Slide by going to Slide View > Home tab > Paragraph.
I cannot offer a time frame for when or if this issue will be resolved, so please continue to take advantage of the workaround if you encounter this issue in the future.
I'll also include this thread in the report that he filed, so that I can share any additional information/updates here.
Hi Ashley. Pretty sure I've brought this issue up before but please add me to the wish list of people waiting to have this fixed. The workaround of going to every text box and adjusting the line spacing manually sort of defeats the purpose of having a master page in the first place.
Thanks Brett - will do and now that you're in the thread you'll receive any updates here via email if you're subscribed.
