Bullet Isssue in Storyline

Aug 29, 2012

Hello everyone,

I am not sure whether someone have answer to the question below:

I woudl like to know is there any efficient way to provide sub-level bullets and change the color of bullets in storyline?

I tried inserting through symbols or text boxes but it consumes more time when the slide count is huge.

Please let me know if anybody have any better solution apart from this.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hey Kristin,

I had this issue too.

I'm pretty sure it is invisible line breaks that come in from PowerPoint.

I'm pretty sure you can fix this by opening the text box wider, select and deleting the extra space where it is breaking so the text goes back up to the paragraph or text box it should be a part of.

After that I either made the box less wide or hit ctrl+enter to break it down to the next line again.

Hope this helps, it was awhile ago, so I'm not exactly sure these were my exact steps.

Reagrding animation of bullet lists and bullet text pulling in from the next line...

I've found the "by first level paragrapgh" animation feature to be really inconsistent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For instance, even though I can see in my timeline that the text has been separated, it's as if there's no timing applied. I'll line up each bullet to specific cue points in my audio, but they appear helter skelter. Usually the first bullet appears they way I've instructed it to, but the rest may appear partially, two at a time, or just fine. It always seems to vary. This seems really glitchy. Also, I often use soft returns to break text properly across lines (i.e. no dangling prepositions/verbs). As a work-around, I've been using white rantangles and fading them out when I want the bullet text to appear. It looks like this is working in both preview and published files, but it's time consuming. Does anyone see any issues with my work-around?

Hi Kate,

Is the bullet animation inconsistency happening on those where you use soft returns or across the entire set? The workaround you've shared sounds like it should work, and the other option would be to split each bullet into it's own text box and have those shown when you want them to appear (on a trigger click, timeline, etc.)

I feel like this question came up a few times on this page, but I haven't seen a direct answer (I apologize if it's in here somewhere and I missed it).

Can you format the bullet STYLE (circle, disc, square) in Storyline?

Re: David Anderson's "branded" bullets, is there a way to use images as bullets other than manually creating separate images and aligning them where the bullet points should go? That approach might be handy for one or two special slides, but it makes it difficult when editing, resizing, or moving text boxes since the images would each have to be realigned.

hi All,

I know these messages were shared some 6 years back. I found them very useful. Now  I can change the colour of my bullets, but I cant include square bullets in my courses. My PPTs have square bullets, and after i have imported the slides in Storyline, all the square bullets changed to regular circular bullets. How can I fix that?

Hi Durba,

Square bullets should import correctly into Storyline from PowerPoint. What version of Storyline are you using? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline.

In the meantime, you can easily change the bullet style in Storyline by clicking the bullets dropdown on the Home tab, then selecting the square bullets.

Hi Alyssa,

Thanks for your response. I am not sure the version of the product I am using. It says Update 10: 1509.1408. Copyright 2001-2013. It seems an old version. In the Paragraph section of Home ribbon, I don't see the small inverted triangle next to bullets icon to select different types of bullets. I have attached a screen shot of the same.

What version are you using when you created the sample screen grab for me?
