Button Text Color Changes in all States

Aug 31, 2021

Hi everyone,

I'm a new instructional designer and I've been playing around with states for buttons.

An issue I keep running into is that when I want to change the text color for my button for one state, but whenever I do, it keeps changing the color for all states. For example, in the normal state button's text is black, and in the hover state I want the text to be white. Any tips on how to get around this?

Thanks!

Hi Jasmine, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing with your project file.

I'm unable to replicate what you are reporting. Does the issue happen in any course you are working on or just this particular one?

Here are the steps I followed:

Select button > States > Edit States > Select Hover State > Adjust Color

Hi Leslie! Thanks for the warm welcome, and I appreciate you trying to replicate my problem.

It's not the buttons' colors that are giving me the issue it's the text color within the buttons that I want to change (i.e. hover state the text is white instead of the normal state's text being black) and it's not letting me. Does that make sense?

I think I've run into this problem on 2 different projects.

Hi Jasmine,

I can't duplicate your issue, and am able to change font colors for states (see below). Can you upload an example file where you are trying to do this?

One thing to note: the hover state will override others, that is to say, if your button is in the visited state, but the mouse hovers over the button, you will see the font color of the hover state.

I was having the same issue with my buttons' font colors changing to the color of the Disabled state's font color.  What worked for me was to delete the Disable state, fix the font colors for the other states, re-add the Disable state with its unique font color, and then going to Story View to save the file. When I saved within the affected slide while showing states, things would revert to the wrong font colors. I didn't try going to Timeline and saving, which might also work.

I'm having this same issue. Changing the font color for one of the states changes it for every state. Specifically, this is happening in a Feedback Master slide. I want the font of my Normal state to be one color and the font of my disabled state to be another. However when I change one state's font color, it changes all of them. Stacy, your suggestion of deleting the Disabled state and re-adding it did not work.

This has not been an issue until today.

Interestingly, this is not happening in projects I have already created. I have two Storyline files open next to each other. One was carbon copied from the other. However, the one created today is having the issue with font colors, and the project created previously is functioning correctly.

Hi Evan,

Thanks for reaching out regarding the behavior you're seeing with your project. We are monitoring a bug in Storyline that is similar to what you're describing. I'll inform our product team that you're also affected. We'll let you know once this is fixed.

I wonder why this issue only happened in your newer projects. The bug related to Feedback Master object states was observed several versions ago in Build 3.63.27674.0. We are already in Build 3.89.xxx. Can you check what Storyline version you are using? If you recently updated your Storyline instance from one older than Build 3.63.xxx to the latest version, that could explain why you've seen the bug.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Evan,

Thanks for confirming the Storyline version and how the behavior is observed within the Feedback Master. If there are any updates on a resolution, we'll update this discussion.
