Button to move a video object forward or backward in time?

Sep 26, 2018

Hello - I am working on a project that has embedded video objects on each slide. I would like to use buttons that allow the end-user to skip ahead or skip back 10 seconds in the video when they click and/or touch them, but I'm not sure how to make this interaction. Is there a way to make a script that would do this? I would just use the playbar, however on mobile devices this does not end up being a very good solution. It's too small and very difficult to scrub through the video timeline. Thanks in advance - Jeff

When you say 'embedded video objects' do you mean .mp4 files that were imported or do you mean web-hosted videos (e.g. YouTube) that were added using an embed code? There is no way to jump to specific points in the timeline of a slide or an imported .mp4 video. You may be able to use some Javascript to control a web-hosted vid that is displayed via a webobject in Storyline.

Sorry, I did mean embedded mp4 files. Ok, that makes sense. I have been able to do the java control with Youtube videos as web objects, as you mentioned. Unfortunately for this specific project, I won't be able to use Youtube to host the videos. So I guess we'll have to make do with the playbar. I wish we could customize the playbar, that would solve a lot of my concerns actually. Anyway - Thanks!
