Is there a way for a button to appear after audio completes on a slide so the user can click the button to advance the slide, but not until he listens to the entire audio or video contained on the slide?
Michael and Becky have pointed you in the right direction, and in case you need a further tutorial you may want to review this tutorial on how to disable the built in next button or your custom button until a user interacts with the elements on your slide.

Hi Kara,
Welcome to the community!
So, it sounds like inserted a Custom button. You might try:
Set the button's initial state to hidden
(You can do this by clicking the button, then clicking the States tab and choosing Hidden from the initial state dropdown)
Add a trigger to change the state of the Button to normal when the media completes
Is that clear, or do you need more specifics?
Yes, add a trigger to the sound file that changes the state of your button to Normal When Media xyz completes.
hah! Tag, Michael, you're it
Happy New Year to you both!
