Can a completed storyline assignment file be downloaded as a Word or PDF file?

Oct 16, 2017

Due to being unable to get multiple short answer text entry slides to report in moodle I am wondering is there a way students could complete the task in storyline, then download the file as a word document or PDF enabling them to upload the completed task in a moodle dropbox?

Completion is usually recorded by a learning management system (LMS) like Moodle, as the completion information is more a datagram burst of bits, not downloaded item.

If you search through these forums you'll find people have created amazing techniques to record student text to Google Sheets (spreadsheet), though it's quite complex

Naturally certificates work will if needing a simple way for students to celebrate or prove their completion. Articulate has several tutorials you can find through your favorite web searching tool. Client of mine recently tipped me to http://cerilio.com too.

Welcome and good luck

Hi Janine!  I had a look at your file and I saw a couple of areas that I think we could adjust.

  • First, the results slide that you were using had been modified.  Instead of the trigger to submit the results, there was a trigger attached to the submit button to submit the "interaction" of the results slide.  For results slides to work properly, you need the trigger to submit the results.
  • I also noticed on one of your essay questions (3.5)  you had a trigger to "Review the results" when clicking the next button.  Here, you want to jump to the next slide.  Review results is a trigger that is used from the results slide if learners want to go back through their answered questions and review their responses.
  • I'm not sure what is happening with Scene 2.  You've got some additional short answer questions, but there is no way to navigate to that group of questions as a learner.  Also, the triggers on these slides are to jump to the next slide and to submit the interaction both when the timeline starts.  If the learner did get to these slides, they wouldn't be able to do anything with them.
  • Lastly, if your LMS setup will allow it, you'll want to track by the results slide instead of by number of slides viewed.  That way, the information that is being sent to the LMS will be what the results slide compiles -- student answers.  I recommend publishing for SCORM 2004 to include your question text in the information sent to the LMS.

I'm attaching a modified version of your project, with the exception of scene 2.  Here's a link to the output on SCORM Cloud, which I used for testing.  I was able to see my answers in the report after completing the course.

I hope that helps a little!

Hi Crystal, thanks for this. I'll run it through the LMS and see how we go.

Scene 2 contains the variables for the multiple text entry slide (table 1.1) at the start. They are hidden from the learners as their purpose ( in theory) is to report the inputs from that table. I read a thread and followed the instructions from Matthew to set this up.  My main issue is these aren't reporting to the LMS, the other single text entry essay and short answer slides are.

So now wondering - should this be a new scene or just hidden slides?

Is hiding the slides impacting their reporting to the LMS?

Should I have two results slides - one for the variables from the table and one for the remainder of the exercise?

If so - will they both report to the LMS?

As you can understand an important part of this is that it will be user friendly to mark - we were hoping this would work in Storyline but now thinking we need to find a plan B.

Hi Janine,

We'll only report one results slide to your LMS, and if the user doesn't visit that slide as it's hidden then those items won't be reported. Something to keep in mind as you look to those workarounds!

If you need to track multiple results/completion elements - there are a few ways to do it, but they're not supported by Articulate.
