Can Articulate Storyline replace Camtasia Studio to create interative software application demos and training?

Apr 03, 2019

Hello,

I have not subscribed to Articulate Storyline yet as I am trying to decide between Camtasia Studio and Articulate Storyline for developing software application training and demos.

Can someone please confirm if Articulate Storyline can create PowerPoint slides with embedded videos demonstrating how to use a software application?  Is video embedding a built-in feature of Articulate Storyline? or will I need subscribe to both Camtasia Studio and Articulate Storyline to accomplish this task?

Hi Nadia,

These discussions are a bit older, so they're comparing and working with the two tools prior to Storyline 3 and Articulate 360:

Feel free to ask new questions in the comments fields or in this discussion for others in the community to weigh in.

With Articulate 360, you'll have a bunch of options to record and produce videos. Here's a quick take on it,

  • Peek: short screencasts that don't need to be edited
  • Replay: screencasts that you want to be able to edit a little
  • Storyline: longer screencasts that you want to be able to add interactivity to

Also, this article titled Record, Edit Videos with Articulate 360 will walk you through how each would vary.

Storyline slides will look similar to Powerpoint slides, but they can't be converted back into a Powerpoint.  So if that's a crucial feature for you, Storyline may not be the tool but you could use Presenter 360 within the suite. If you haven't yet, take a look at the trial of Articulate 360 here - it's 60 days worth of testing goodness!
