Can't access Resources in Internet Explorer

Mar 03, 2017

I couldn't find any specific thread on this but hoping you can help.

We have a piece of content that uses the resources tab - it's published to HTML5 and links to a document in an FTP site. It works fine in Chrome, Firefox and whilst it flags it might be phishing site in Safari you can still access the document. The issue is in IE 11 - the resources tab turns in to what looks like a scrolling button with nothing to scroll to or the links don't even work. We've been informed it may be the Storyline player but we've tested it and it doesn't seem to have any bearing.

So is that Resources and the way they work just isn't compatible in IE or is it something to do with the FTP site? Just don't know why it would work in other browsers and not IE - is it flash related.

Any advice would be appreciated

Mike

Hello Mike - The Resource Tab with just scroll bars is an issue that I've seen reported when users are utilizing the HTML5 output in an unsupported viewing environment. If you are viewing the HTML5 output in IE, that could certainly be the case. You can see all of our supported viewing environments here. We recommend sharing the story.html file as you can see in this documentation.

Hi Mike - Moreso that our output is not always well supported in that environment. The following is an excerpt from the documentation I shared above.

HTML5

Windows: Google Chrome (latest version)

Mac: Safari 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version)

Mobile: Safari in Apple iOS 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version) in Android OS 4.1 and later

Hi Leslie not we're using Storyline 2. It's published to HTML5 output but no articulate player (as it's hit and miss which is a big shame) and we run open programmes so no control over what people use as there browser. We have all browsers for testing and we have the right flash settings / version and still the resources tab doesn't work in IE 11 - just confused as to why it doesn't work but works in every other browser!

Thanks for the clarification Mike :)

Be sure to link to the story.html file in the published output.

Here’s how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it:

  • Learners will see the Flash version of your course if their browser supports it.
  • If learners are using iPads or Android tablets and you didn't select the AMP option when you published, but you did select HTML5, the HTML5 output will launch in their mobile browser.
  • If learners are using a browser without Flash and you marked the HTML5 option, they'll see the HTML5 output. (For a list of supported browsers, click here.)

Not sure if Flash has been disabled in IE11? We would expect the flash version to work as expected, but again, the HTML5 output is not supported in that environment due to limitations of the browser.
