Can't delete entrance animations from text boxes
Apr 19, 2023
I copied 7 textboxes from one slide to another. I tried to remove the textboxes' entrance (fade in) animations on the 2nd slide, but they didn't go away. I could change the type and duration of entrance animations, but I could not delete the animations.
I tried removing the entrance animations from the textboxes on the 1st slide before copying/pasting them into the 2nd slide, but the animations persisted. I tried copying/pasting one textbox at a time, and I still can't get rid of the textbox entrance animations on the 2nd slide!
Any ideas?

Hi Debbie
can you share the slides?
Hi Debbie
It is difficult to say what the problem is without the slides - BUT, a mistake I often make occurs when the text box is actually a 'Group'. If your text box is two items - a box shape and a text box - I sometimes confuse myself by having an animation attached to the text box AND another animation applied to the group! And if you apply a third animation to the shape box.... well, you get the picture!
I'm sure it isn't that, but I thought I would mention it...
Mystery solved! The first textbox was modified body textbox from a Master Slide, and the Entrance Animation was part of that Master Slide textbox. So, when I copied that 1st textbox to create the others, they ALL had a built-in Entrance Animation.
I just now created new textboxes "from scratch" on the 1st slide, and when I copy/paste them into the 2nd slide I can remove their Entrance Animations.
Moral: be careful about including entrance animations in Master Slides!
I'm delighted you solved it. I've certainly also been confused by stuff that's been done in the Master Slide. Definitely worth noting! Thanks.
Hi all, I also am confounded by slide master behaviour, I have set the main text boxes on my slide layouts within the slide master to use the entrance animation 'wipe' however I often find when I select that layout the entrance animation loaded is fade and not wipe! Any thoughts on why this would be?
Hello Julie,
I'm sorry you're seeing a discrepancy with animations from the slide master to the actual slide. I ran some tests with the attached Storyline project, and the animation worked as expected. I prepared a Peek recording of my tests for you.
If the issue is still happening and you're working on your local drive, try running these steps to fix possible installation issues.
We'd be glad to investigate further if the problem persists. You may share your Storyline project here or privately in a support case, where our Support Engineers will work with you one-on-one. We'll delete it when we're done testing.
