We published a SCORM in SL 360 using HTML5. We are using the Modern Player. I am testing this with JAWS and the play, pause, previous and next buttons are not being read by JAWS. They are reading as "button, to activate press space bar." This is not acceptable for 508 compliance. We need those buttons to read what function they actually have. Is there a way we can alt text those buttons?
Yep! And you are correct! It is only HTML5. I'm sorry! It's definitely not reading tags if it is tagged at all. I'm going to try on NVDA and VoiceOver as well.
I did a really simple test of a project with Storyline 360, build 3.22.17236.0 and published for Web. I have JAWS 2018 and viewed it in Chrome. I heard JAWS read out the play button and seekbar as I'd expect. Here's a quick Peek video so that you can follow along with what I saw.
You can also customize the Alt Text as noted here (Step #4).
Yes it does read out but as I said above it does not tell you the FUNCTION of that button. The other player says “prev button” or “button next.” This Modern player does not and there is no way for us to get into your code and add alt text to these buttons. For those who want to use the modern player, we will have to create our own buttons to be read by JAWS. How can we submit a request to add this to this player??
When I customized the Modern Player button style to include the words "Prev" and "Next", JAWS then read the function of the button by announcing "Prev Button" and "Next Button".

Are you sure you are using the Modern player it only publishes to HTML5, I would have expected the player buttons to have tags though.

Hi Ashley,
When I customized the Modern Player button style to include the words "Prev" and "Next", JAWS then read the function of the button by announcing "Prev Button" and "Next Button".
Here's a screen recording to show you what I mean.
Let me know if that's what you had in mind!
Hi Alyssa,
I needed to make sure the button was showing the icon AND text and it works beautifully. Thank you all SO much for your help!!!! :)
