Can you access Scene/Slide element information programmatically?

This discussion seems to come up under various topics (most often when developers are trying to build linear courses with automatic page numbering etc.) but I haven't found the answer i am looking for. Its a simple question: Does Storyline allow developers to access element information about Slides or Scenes. I am using a web based issue tracking system. When we use this system with course built in our custom html or flash shells it is a fairly simple matter to use javascript ar actionscript to pass in information about the user's current location in the course (module, lesson, page etc). The reviewer can then concentrate on entering the information about the issue at hand and when the developer reviews the issue it is very easy to track where it occurs in the course. We can enable/disable the tracking link with a single global variable.

Storyline makes this process EXTREMELY inefficient and labor intensive. The developer has to hardcode the scene and slide information on EACH occurrence of the link. There appears to be no way to add it to a slide master. To make matters worse in many cases we have to put the link on multiple slide layers on the same page as well.  It also requires us to add slide and slide layer triggers to account for each occurrence of the tracking link so that they can all be disabled/enabled as needed. One course of 70+ pages required over 200 separate hard coded links to be added with 200 separate triggers.

SO is there ANY WAY AT ALL to get this slide and scene info out of Storyline using some undocumented system variables or something? I am not hopeful when it seems developers can't even get PAGE NUMBERS to be auto generated.
