Can you use AS on a Mac?

Sep 01, 2014

I've just purchased a Mac computer and wondered if it's possible to use Articulate Storyline on it?

I have designed the preliminary stages of my courses on my PC which is on its last legs. I wondered if there is any way to transfer the material onto my new Mac computer and keep working on the courses?

Even if it means purchasing another licence. Preferably I would like to just be able to transfer the licence and the material from the PC to the Mac if at all possible.

Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Anne,

I've used Storyline on a Mac since the first version released. Works great! I run in VMWare on Windows 8.1. This requires the purchase of VMWare ($70) or Parallels (about the same) or finding a free virtual machine software plus the purchase of a Windows license. You shouldn't have to purchase another license of Storyline. Deactivating from your old machine and moving over to the new one once you have the virtual machine running should do the trick.

I'm really satisfied with the way SL runs in the virtual machine on the Mac.

Anne,

I'm running Storyline on a Mac now. Instead of using the virtual machine, which I'm sure would work, I used Mac's built in Bootcamp utility to install Windows 7. When the machine boots up, you can bring up Icons by pressing the option keys that let you start the computer in either Windows or Mac .

The only thing I've noticed that's odd is that my delete key works for editing text but not for deleting objects, so they have to be Cut. Hope that helps.

Hi, Anne! I use Parallels; you should be fine with either VMWare or Parallels, provided your Mac has the necessary specs advertised by the product manufacturers. Parallels just came out with version 10, which they claim is Yosemite-ready. I haven't installed it yet--Parallels does have a habit of wanting another $40-45 each time they come out with a new version. I'm still on v8 and running fine, though. I can't speak for VMWare's habits. Whichever you buy, check the specs first.

There are also other, less-expensive cross-platform softwares out there; just be aware that Storyline doesn't run on all of those. And Boot Camp is a free option, but it requires you to boot into either Windows or Mac; you have to get out of one and then into the other, which can be inconvenient. The virtual solutions allow you to seamlessly work between Mac and Windows applications, and (if you set things up carefully) even share where you store folders for many things--though your Storyline files should always stay on the Windows side. I know that Parallels offers free tech support for the first 30 days, so if you go with them, you should take advantage of that fact to get your system set up exactly the way you want it. I've been very happy with the functionality.

Regards,

Andrew

Patrick hold down Fn and Delete and it will work as delete in Windows
