Cannot Navigate Menu Using Keyboard
Jun 23, 2016
Hello,
Lately my office has been working to make sure our tutorials are fully accessible (i.e., taking out drag-and-drop interactions, including an audio transcript, etc.). I have noticed that we are able to tab over to the menu in the player, and depending on the location sometimes use the arrow keys to navigate up and down, but we are unable to make a selection using the keyboard.
We have some tutorials that reference using the menu to navigate to different slides, so it would be great if we could utilize the built-in menu in the player instead of having to build one in the slides!

Hi Melissa,
Are you unable to click on the slides in the menu by using the space bar or enter key to select them while highlighted? If that's not working, are you testing the published output within the intended publish environment or locally? Can you confirm you're viewing it in one of the supported browsers detailed here.
Hi Melissa
We changed a heap of presentations last month
One learning I can provide is to make the most of the Tab Order functionality (Home>Slide>Tab Order)
Use it to remove unwanted objects from the tab list to ensure the only options for the learners are the relevant objects.
Thank you both!
Yes Ashley, I am using a Windows 10 machine with an IE11 browser and the TempShare program to publish. I just went through it again and found I was able to navigate using the space bar where I had been previously using the enter key. Is there a way to change the default for this in the player?
And Mr. C, we have been using the tab order functionality as well and have found it extremely helpful, thanks for sharing!
H, Melissa -- Thanks for stopping back in with an update, and while I am not aware of a way to change the default for using the space bar vs. the enter key, perhaps others in the community will have additional insights to share.
Hi Melissa,
No way to change the default as Christie mentioned - but the enter key and the spacebar should generally work the same.
