Captions from base layer stay active on other layer

Feb 13, 2018

I have an audio on base layer and few links which lead to layers. When I click to show another layer while audio is still playing - captions stay active and visible on that new layer.

Refer: http://prntscr.com/ie3d8m - base layer with closed captions. Clicking Learn More in upper right corner displays new layer and those caption from base layer stay active: http://prntscr.com/ie3dhr

"Learn more" layer doesn't have any audio attached to it.

Hi Alyssa!

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I have done that.

The thing is... the audio from the base layer is paused, it doesn't continue playing when I click to show other layer. Just that one line of captions - which was active when I clicked - stays on other layer.

I tried to recreate this situation in a New project in Storyline...I just added one video that I used in my course, basic button and one layer to show...and the same thing happened (with  "Pause Timeline of Base Layer"  enabled). I have attached that test .story file.

Thanks so much for sharing your file with me, Mirna! After taking a closer look, I'm seeing some buggy behavior here.

With audio closed captions, marking the layer property to Pause timeline of base layer will hide the captions on a slide layer. However, with video closed captions, the captions will continue to display on the slide layer.

Both audio and video closed captions should behave in the same way, so we're going to begin looking at a solution for this problem.

In the meantime, there are two ways to hide video closed captions when a layer opens:

Let me know if you have any questions about that!

Hi Mirna,

I wanted to share that the issue where video closed captions will incorrectly appear on a slide layer when using the "Pause Timeline of Base Layer" setting is now resolved!

The next step is to update Storyline 360 by heading to your Articulate 360 desktop app and clicking "Update" next to Storyline.

If the problem reappears, please let us know! We are happy to help!
