Caret (^) sign in text entry (html 5)

hi,
developing a text entry quiz (only interested in HTML5 version).
I set up a text entry box on slide one (deleted "type your text here" from player/text labels), then a simple drag&drop on slide2. When I export and open story_html5 the first slide looks fine (blank text entry box) - then I move to slide 2 - and then back to slide one. When I re-enter slide 1 - I get the caret (^) character inside the text entry box (instead of being blank). Attached is the simple story project file.
any ideas why this happens?
