Change state of a box (as an object)

I am trying to change the state of a simple box.  The normal state has is the box itself.    I want to add a state that shows a glow around it when the box is selected.   I can't find any information on this.    

I have reviewed the information on changing the state of an object where the object is one of the characters but can't find information on any other type of object.
