Changing the Design of a New Slide

Apr 02, 2013

When creating a new slide, if I try to change the design of my new slide (ex. from Momentum to Brushed) it automatically changes the design of my original slide.  Is there a way to keep this from happening?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Rebecca!

When you modify the design for a slide, it will automatically update all slides. However, an easy way to apply a specific design to a single slide is to use Slide Masters.

Take a look at the following tutorials for more information:

Using Slide Masters

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Christine and Rebecca,

I'm able to change the slide design for one or more slides, so I thought I should jump in ... unless I'm misunderstanding.

So, I started out with 3 slides in my presentation. The were all using the default "built-in" design.

  • To make "all things equal", I selected the Momentum design from the themes group. As anticipated, all slides changed to that design.
  • I inserted a new slide blank slide and, as anticipated, it took on the Momentum design

BUT

  • This time I went to the Themes group, right-clicked on Brushed and from the shortcut menu chose "apply to selected slides." Ta da!

Note that you can also do this with assorted slides by using the Shift+click (select contiguous slides) and Control+Click (select non-contiguous slides) selection keystrokes.
