Changing the state of a button when dropped correct
Aug 27, 2013
Hello,
I am using a drag and drop question in a spelling exercise for children.
They have to drop the correct verb in each sentence. Some of the sentences are questions and this implies that the verb stands at the beginning of the sentence and should have a capital letter when dropped correctly. They cannot have a capital letter in the normal state, because that is too much of a hint about the correct solution of the question.
For these verbs I have added the state 'Drop correct' and I have also added a trigger to this button:
Action: Change state of
On Object: Button 18 - 'profiteer'
To state: Drop Correct
When: Object dropped on
Object: Button 18- 'profiteer'
Dropped on: Button 14 (in this case this is the right answer)
We have tried everyting, but when we preview the slide or the whole scene, the verb does not get a capital letter when it's supposed to. Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance,
Stephanie

HI Stephanie,
Can you upload the slide so we can take a look? Offhand, it sounds correct, but there must be something going on!
Oh, and welcome to the community!
Stephanie;
tough without seeing it but Drop Correct is a built in Storyline state for a drag and drop quiz interaction. This may cause issues.
I would use a different custom state if you made that one yourself. If you attach that slide someone can have a look at it for you.

Hi Tim,
Just an FYI that I ran a quick test with a Drop Correct state after first trying a custom state, because I wasn't sure drop correct would work. But, both did work.
Could be that it IS an issue, but just wanted to throw that out there. And tx for also contributing here...it take a community (to incorrectly quote Hillary C).
Hi Stephanie and welcome to Heroes!
It looks like Becky and Tim are helping you out here, but if you need anything else just let us know!
Hi,
Thanks already for your replies.
I have attached one of the problematic slides (it's in Dutch )
The word 'verras' is supposed to become 'Verras' with capital letter, when dropped in the second sentence (the correct solution)
I hope you guys can help me with this!
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
I THINK it may be that it wasn't working correctly because the drag items are buttons, rather than shapes. Is there a reason you used buttons? If not, take a look at slide 2 - a duplicate slide I made.
I left everything the same EXCEPT I
When I drag it onto the 2nd sentence, it DOES have a capital V.
If this works for your purposes, you would of course have to delete your original verras button. Also you'd need to change your other 2 "drag" buttons to shapes.
If this doesn't work, please shout out with any questions.
Hi Stephanie! I wanted to pop in and welcome you to E-Learning Heroes as well. Looks like Becky is taking care of you, so just let us know how that suggestion works for you and if you need anything further.
Thanks Stephanie for sharing your project, and thanks to Becky for working up an example!
Ok, I found a solution by using a custom state instead of using the state 'drop correct'.
It's strange that Drop Correct doesn't work, but this way I have an equally good solution.
Thanks a lot for the help!
Stephanie
Thanks for the update Stephanie!
